Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 May 2026
Aero Companion is a preflight planning and proficiency companion for general aviation pilots. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Aero Companion website (aerocompanion.com) and the Aero Companion iOS app, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
We try to keep this short and plain. If anything here is unclear, write to us at support@aerocompanion.com and we will explain.
What we collect
1. Information you give us
- Account details. If you sign in, we store your email address and a hashed authentication identifier so we can recognise your account across sessions and devices.
- Subscription status. If you upgrade to Pro on the web, we store the fact that your account is on a paid plan and the plan tier so we can unlock the right features. Payment card details are handled by our payment processor (Stripe) and are never stored on our servers.
- Inputs you type into the tools. Airport identifiers, aircraft profile fields, departure and destination, fuel and weight figures, and similar planning inputs. These are processed to give you a result. Anonymous summaries may be retained to improve the product.
- Messages you send us. If you contact support, we keep the message and your reply email so we can answer.
2. Information from your device
- Approximate or precise location, only when you grant it. The iOS app and the website ask for your location only when you tap a feature that needs it, for example the closest-airport METAR tile or the crosswind finder's auto-locate. If you decline, those features fall back to manual entry and we do not receive your location. Location is used to compute nearest airports and weather and is not stored as a profile of where you go.
- Diagnostic and security logs. Standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, page or endpoint, user agent, response status). We use these to keep the service running, catch errors, and block abuse. Logs are retained for a limited period and then deleted.
- Analytics. The website uses Google Analytics to count visits and understand which tools are used. Analytics events are aggregated and not used to identify you personally.
3. What we do not collect
- The iOS app does not include in-app purchases. No payment information is collected inside the app.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers inside the app.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.
How we use what we collect
- To run the tools you asked for: crosswind candidate runways, glide-aware route planning, time-zone conversion, closest-airport METAR, account sign-in.
- To remember your account and your subscription tier across devices.
- To keep the service available, secure, and bug-free.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
- To understand which features are used so we can prioritise improvements.
Third parties that help us run the service
We share data only with vendors who help us deliver the service, under contractual confidentiality obligations:
- Stripe for subscription payments on the web.
- Amazon Web Services for hosting, storage, and authentication.
- Google Analytics for aggregate website traffic measurement.
- Aviation data providers (for example, METAR, TAF, and winds aloft feeds). We send airport identifiers; we do not send your account details.
We do not sell personal information to anyone.
Your choices
- Location. You can grant or deny location access at any time in iOS Settings or in your browser's site settings.
- Analytics. Browser-level tracking blockers and "Do Not Track" settings are honoured by most analytics tools we use.
- Account closure. Email support@aerocompanion.com and we will delete your account and associated personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Children
Aero Companion is built for adult pilots and student pilots. The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Aviation safety notice
Aero Companion is a preflight planning and proficiency companion. It is not a substitute for an official weather briefing, NOTAM check, current charts, performance data from your Pilot's Operating Handbook, or ATC clearances. The pilot in command is responsible for the safe and legal conduct of the flight and for verifying any output against authoritative sources and applicable regulations.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the service after that constitutes acceptance.
